Susan
Mace
Susan grew up in Craigsville, WV, the
daughter of the late Elder Mason & Marie Carpenter Baughman. She graduated from
Richwood High School in 1969, attended Glenville State College, and obtained an
AA Degree in Mortuary Science from Jefferson State Community College,
Birmingham, Alabama, in December 1993. Susan received her Funeral Director and
Embalmer licenses in West Virginia in 1994.
At the age of five, she knew that she wanted to do the "Magic" that Charles Dodd
preformed as "Charley" made her great-grandmother look forty years younger, and
he explained in words that a five year old could understand. Susan served her
apprenticeship at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home under the guidance of Don Combs.
She returned to work at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home in 1994 after becoming
licensed. She took time off in January 2000 to work at High Lawn Funeral Chapel
in Oak Hill, WV, for five months returning to Simons-Coleman Funeral Home in
June 2000, where she is presently employed.
Susan belongs to the VFW Auxiliary, Rainelle, WV; the Cherry River Admiral
Ladies, Richwood, WV; and is a member of Faith Baptist Church, Craigsville, WV.
She has served in all offices of the WVFDA and District III, and is an Active
member of WVFDA, District III, and NFDA
Susan lives with her husband, George, and between them they have four children
and seven grandchildren; her sons, David (Peggy) Starcher and Sanford (Linda)
Frame; George's daughters, Erin (J.B.) Miller and Molly Mace; grandchildren,
Curtis and Haley Starcher; Kristy and Michaela Frame; and Mara, Aiden, and
Adrianna Miller.
In their spare time, Susan and George enjoy camping in a caboose at Cass or
riding around in their 1948 Willy's jeep.
